Term 2 - Week 5 & Week 6

I've been sick these two weeks so I haven't been in class.

I kept in contact with some classmates to keep current on newer work.

Term 2 - Week 4

Tuesday - Create User Documentation (Morning) and Design (Afternoon):

In the morning, JC spoke about User Documentation.  We received a second assignment for the topic.  JC went through the assignment with us.  We also compared the differences between two types of User Documentation.

In the afternoon, we were working with our assignments.  I had already finished mine so I left early.

Wednesday - XHTML & CSS:

In the morning, we finished working on a replica of a movie theatre themed CSS design from CSS Zen Garden.

We also started on a new CSS design themed around the ocean and sealife.

In the afternoon we recieved the dates for our XHTML/CSS assignment and exams.
We spent the rest of the day working on our assignments.  Mine is almost done so I left early.

Friday - Using Computing Packages (Morning) and Using Adobe Suite (Afternoon):

Morning - Access:
We continued from last week, learning about tables, forms and queries.
Afternoon - Photoshop & Flash:
We started with some photoshop, using smart objects, selection methods and masking.
Later in the lesson we moved on to some Flash, creating invisible buttons, making slideshows and writing some actionscript.

We recieved another assignment for Flash as well.

Term 2 - Week 2

Tuesday - Ethical Conduct (Morning) and Design (Afternoon):

Morning - Ethical Conduct:
Our final Ethical Conduct assignment was due but I hadn't completed it because I was having a hard time understanding what was needed.  After speaking with John (teacher) about some examples and looking at a previous student's work, I have a much better idea of what I need to do.

Afternoon - Design:
We started working on a new assignment, 'Pies R Us'.  The assignment is to create a mockup of a website about a "delivered pies on demand" service.  We are also required to create mockups of any subsequent pages linked from the homepage so we can create a working prototype later in the term.
So far I have most of the homepage completed.

Wednesday - Using Mark Up Language and Cascading Style Sheets (HTML & CSS):
In the morning we started work on replicating a design from CSS Garden's website.  We have a basic XHTML structure and we'll be creating Cascading Style Sheets to make the site look vastly different without editing the XHTML at all.  I've been picking up some interesting tips and tricks for using CSS to manipulate the look and feel of a website.

We spent the afternoon working on our Assignments.

Friday - Operate Computing Packages (Morning) and Using Adobe Photoshop (Afternoon):

Morning - Access:
We are starting to use Microsoft Access from this week forward.  However, this week is a challenge test to determine whether we should attend the lessons or not.
I know nothing about Microsoft Access so I'll just be attending the lessons starting from next week.

Afternoon - Flash & Photoshop:
We covered some basic selection techniques and layer techniques in Photoshop.  Most of which, I already knew but it was a decent refresher.
We also worked with Flash for a little while creating some labeled shape buttons and invisible buttons.

Term 2 - Week 1

Wednesday - Using Mark Up Language and Cascading Style Sheets (HTML & CSS):

First day back in term two.

We spent the morning learning about different types of navigation bars and how they are created.  We also learned how to use sprite images to make a rollover effect in a navigation bar.  A sprite rollover navigation bar is required for our HTML & CSS assignment.

We spent the latter half of the day working on our assignments.

Friday - Operate Computing Packages (morning) and Using Adobe Flash & Photoshop (afternoon):

Morning - Excel:
We sat an exam covering excel.  I think I did reasonably well considering I missed one of the two lessons we had on excel.

Afternoon - Flash & Photoshop:
I turned in my Flash assignment as well as my Copyright assignment.
We started learning about some features of photoshop such as the healing brush, clone stamp and patch tools.

Week 9

The last week of lessons before two weeks holidays.

Tuesday - Ethical Conduct (Morning) and Design (Afternoon):

Morning - Ethical Conduct:
I handed in my ethical code of conduct assignment and emailed John a link to this e-journal.
We had a class discussion about ethical situations involving partial and impartial thinking.  John also spoke about skeptisism and how facts are always changing.

Afternoon - Design:
We spoke about our last assignment; Greg gave some feedback.  We spent most of the lesson playing with photoshop.  Greg demonstrated some useful shape-building tools and some tricks with layers and selections for creating complex shape designs.  We were given an assignment for next term.

Wednesday - Using Mark Up Language and Cascading Style Sheets (HTML & CSS):

Friday - Operate Computing Packages (Morning) and Using Adobe Flash (Afternoon):

Week 8

Tuesday - Ethical Conduct (Morning) and Design (Afternoon):
I wasn't feeling too well so I didn't come in.
I emailed in my assignment for my Design class with Greg.

We were asked to compose two jpeg images of homepage designs for "Strathcona Riding Club".
Here's one of the images:

Wednesday - Using Mark Up Language and Cascading Style Sheets (HTML & CSS):
We went through chapters 12 and 13 of the Head First book we've been learning from so far.
Some good stuff about creating page layouts with multiple columns, floating elements, usability, positioning, etc.  Then we started working with tables before the day was over.

Friday - Operate Computing Packages (Morning) and Using Adobe Flash (Afternoon):

Morning - Excel:
Starting to regret skipping the challenge test.  The stuff we're covering is really basic...  Really basic.  A few things, I was unaware of.  But nothing hugely significant.  At least it's easy and not overly comprehensive.

Afternoon - Flash:
We started making an animation of a Heinz soup can juggling some vegitables using most of the tools we've learned so far.  Not finished yet but I'll probably upload it when it is.
